Apple removes Java from OS X

Apple in a recent update to its Mac OS X operating system, removed the Java browser plugin altogether. It has now asked users to download the Java plugin directly from Oracle’s website, which puts the onus on the user and Oracle to keep the plugin updated.

It seems like there is a release of a new version of a tablet OS nearly every other week. Just goes to show how important and popular that form factor is turning out to be. The latest to release is Plasma Active Three, a tablet-centric OS in development by the KDE community.

Linux Foundation’s solution for secure boot woes

Secure Boot, as its name suggests, is a security feature that—if supported by hardware—can make the boot process much less vulnerable to viruses and other malware. The way UEFI and Secure Boot do this is to only execute an operating system’s boot loader and drivers if they are signed by an accepted boot loader.

Google announces first milestone release for Dart

Google reached the first milestone release of Dart which also marks a year of development into the language for web apps. It was announced around the same time last year as a technology preview. The current milestone release of Dart makes a number of improvements in performance and aims to generate more interest by showing off accompanying tools like the Dartium browser and code editor.
