Coding in the cloud: Amy Editor

Another fact worth mentioning about Amy Editor is that it does not require a registration for you to start coding. You can simply open the website, create a new document, start typing, and when you are done, you can save the file to your disk.

It does support registrations though, and that is required if you want to add your own language, snippets, or actions. It is also possible, if you so desire, to log in via Facebook. Unfortunately this is a rather old application, as mentioned before, and hasn’t been updated in a long time. It does not support secure browsing, and as such might not work for you.

If you’re wondering how you can get started with your own code in Amy Editor, well, that is where some of the problems start. Amy Editor has been around, basically untouched since before the GitHub era, and as such it does not feature GitHub connectivity like many other similar solutions.

Even so, it does allow you to edit your own code on your own hosting, as long as the code is hosted on FTP or on a WebDAV capable server. You can even use your own kind of hosting, and just give Amy Editor access to an API interface it supports. Another interesting option is the ability to connect your blog, and edit blog posts via Amy Editor.
