Adobe Shadow Released as Edge Inspect

Adobe Shadow was an interesting Adobe experiment that allowed web developers to simultaneously test their web application across multiple devices. It has now been renamed to Adobe Edge Inspect and is available as part of the Adobe Edge family of tools and services that have just been launched. For customers of Creative Cloud these services are free.

Adobe Edge Inspect is a combination of desktop software, a browser plugin and a mobile app. Using Edge Inspect you can have a website open on both your mobile and desktop browsers are the same time. You can connect multiple devices of different form factor and see how your website responds to, and works on different screen sizes. Navigation, and page refreshing is synchronized between all connected devices.

It is also possible to remotely inspect code, and take snapshots of all connected devices. Other than that, Edge Inspect works on localhost URLs, ans supports HTTP authentication.

While the tool has been free till now as Adobe Shadow, with it becoming a part of the Creative Cloud, it is now a paid product. A free version is still available though, for those who have a free Creative Cloud account. Free users are limited to testing one device at a time, while those subscribed to creative cloud can use it for testing an unlimited number of devices simultaneously. All other features are intact for free users.
