Adobe Announces Adobe Edge Tools and Services

Adobe has announced a new suite of tools and services for Creative Cloud members. Adobe’s Creative Cloud is a cloud service that gives Adobe users access to a number of cloud-based or subscription applications.

With the release of Creative Suite 6, Adobe has made all its products available via a subscription to Creative Cloud, giving access to nearly all Adobe products and services for $49.99 a month.

Since the inception of Creative Cloud Adobe has added on to the products and features offered by it. The new Adobe Edge Tools and Services are the latest addition.

The additions are made up of a number of products that have recently graduated from beta testing to full products, and a some products that are still in development. Overall the Edge suite of products and services caters to web developers and designers.

The products included are:

  • Adobe Edge Animate: Adobe recently renamed their Adobe Edge tool to Edge Animate, and the first version of that is now available as a part of this suite.
  • Adobe Edge Inspect: Formerly Adobe Shadow, this tool allows one to test their code on multiple devices at the same time.
  • Adobe Edge Code: This is essentially, the new Adobe Brackets tool but with additional features. This is still in preview.
  • Adobe Edge Reflow: This is an as yet unreleased product that seems to be centred around creative responsive layouts. You can see a video of it embedded at the end of this post.
  • Adobe Web Fonts: This is a free service, much like Google Web fonts that gives access to a number of web fonts for use via CSS. It will be integrated with Adobe products and tools such as Edge Code.
  • Typekit: Typekit was recently acquired by Adobe, and it is not part of the Creative Cloud offering.
  • Adobe PhoneGap Build: Adobe also acquire Nitobi, the creators of PhoneGap. This online service lets you upload the code for your PhoneGap-based app, and have it compiled for you for multiple platforms.
