With less than 10 days being left for the launch of Blackberry 10, RIM has already started the preparations. The app store – which was until now known as “BlackBerry App World” has now finally been renamed as “BlackBerry World”. As more and more apps start becoming available for the new platform, RIM plans to sell not just apps, but also media across the spectrum of music, movies, TV shows etc. In essence, the Canadian giant aims to take it on par with other services like the Google Play Store and Apple iTunes. The online version can already be accessed on the web here. The change is expected to released to BlackBerry phones and PlayBook tablets “in the coming weeks”. Although it is not clear yet as to exactly what kind of content apart from apps will be made available on launch, but it has been made clear that it will be limited to certain regions, while others might face restrictions. But according to earlier reports, RIM has been trying hard to locaalize the Blackberry world experience as much as possible, and it will be exciting to see how this turns out to be for India. It is expected that the launch will be accompanied by a simultaneous availability of more than 100,000 apps, which is although a record in itself for a launch of any platform, but still falls short of the astronomical numbers that Android and iOS have at around 750000 apps. RIM has been trying hard to shed the image of Blackberry devices being made solely for corporate users, though these changes are expected to give a new life
to its efforts to reach home users and probably help make the platform perform better in fields of entertainment and gaming. Going by the trends, this new found effort is considered to be a last shot by RIM, which certainly looks to have better chances than Windows Phone 8 at capturing the market share from iOS and Android.
