BlackBerry has just recently announced the Flurry Analytics SDK for the developers using the BB10 software development platform. This will enable developers aiming for native apps on the BlackBerry platform to enable logging of application usage details to the Flurry Dashboard which will be accessible to the developer. Flurry can be configured to report any type of detail of the user, provided the relevant permission is available to the application. According to the Blackberry developer blog, Flurry reports the following details by default: –
- Locale set on the device
- Time Zone
- Approximate location
- Device name (ex “BlackBerry Z10”)
- Device OS version
- Carrier
All the above data sent to the developer is obviously anonymous and Flurry provides no way of tracking it to a specific device, thus respecting the privacy of the users. According to the press release by Blackberry, this is expected to be available on Blackberry devices by the end of Q2.
Both BlackBerry and Flurry seem to be quite happy with their collaboration effort.
