Apple App Store has generated 3,00,000 jobs till date

According to the reports published by Apple Inc, the virtual market built over its App Store has now generated around 3,00,000 jobs in USA alone. Apple released an elaborate report titled “Creating jobs through innovation“, which describes how it has historically used innovation to create new markets and jobs, and how it is creating or supporting jobs today.

The technology giant reports that with more than 7,00,000 apps and more than 35 billion downloads in four years, “the App Store has created an entirely new industry: iOS app design and development.” According to the reports, since the advent of the iOS via iPhone in 2007, it has created 2,91,250 iOS-related jobs for the U.S. economy. Technet had estimated earlier this year that the app industry as a whole, had created nearly 5,00,000 jobs in USA.

Apple also reported that it has shelled out more than $6.5 billion to the app developers via the App Store. There usually is a 70-30 split in profits between the publisher and the App Store, where the App Store provides a platform from which developers can sell apps without the need for their own distribution channels.

In other news reported by a company called Appsfire, Apple will today unofficially celebrate the 1 millionth app submission to its App Store. The app count includes iOS apps only and doesn’t account for Mac App Store apps. 493,289 of all the apps submitted to the App store are paid apps and 158,848 are games. Of the 736,247 apps that are currently live 336,270 are paid (around 45 percent), while 120,065 are games (around 16 percent).

With a healthy growth in the number of apps in its market, Apple seems to be up with its preparations to take on Android’s tightening grasp on the ‘app economy’ and the smartphone market as a whole.
