Microsoft launches Windows 10 Fall Creators Update SDK, rebrands Windows Store as Microsoft Store

Windows 10 is a service, meaning it was built in a very different way from its predecessors so it can be regularly updated with not just fixes, but new features, too. Microsoft has released many such updates, including three major ones: November UpdateAnniversary Update, and Creators Update. The fourth major update, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, is slated for release next week on October 17.

While developers in the Windows Insiders Program have been using the Fall Creators Update Preview SDK until now, the release of the final SDK means they can submit their apps, games, and updates to the Microsoft Store. The Fall Creators Update SDK “provides 1000s of new capabilities and improvements,” Microsoft promises.

The company highlighted five areas where the SDK update shines in particular: mixed reality, applications for the modern workplace, Microsoft Fluent Design System, Microsoft Graph and Project Rome, and new features for monetizing apps and games.
