YouTube unveils new TV streaming service

YouTube has entered the growing field of streaming service providers with a new paid TV service that streams over the internet. On Tuesday, YouTube formally unveiled YouTube TV, its answer to similar services like Dish’s SlingTV, AT&T’s DirecTV Now, and Sony’s PlayStation Vue.

YouTube has partnered with all of the broadcast networks in order to offer “comprehensive national coverage with ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox all included” said YouTube Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl.

In addition, YouTube TV includes YouTube Red’s original series. YouTube TV will challenge traditional cable TV players by including a virtual DVR service which will cost $35 per month but shows will automatically be deleted after nine months.

You also can command YouTube TV by voice, thanks to integration with Google’s connected speaker product, Google Home. Both Google and the networks will sell the ads on the service. And everything on the service is ad-supported, unless you subscribe to YouTube Red and are watching YouTube content.

YouTube TV will be available to U.S. customers in select markets on web, Android and iOS in the months ahead.
