Windows Phone 7.8 is next in the line to become the successor of Microsoft’s previous Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system. If you recently bought a smartphone running Windows Phone 7.5, you must be eagerly waiting for this upgrade. Though the update is scheduled for an early 2013 roll out, it seems China will be the first one to receive it.
This news came from the Vice President of Microsoft in Greater China himself. He is not shying away from words and has been speaking up about Windows Phone 7.8 and Windows Phone 8 among other things. This also gives us an idea that the upgrade will also roll out in other markets around the same time and this is a great news for all the Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone owners.
The Vice President made it clear that the Chinese will be the first to dig into the innards of Windows Phone 7.8 before everyone else, as a result this update is scheduled to hit China in the coming weeks. For early adopters in China who could not purchase a new Windows Phone 8 device, this will surely be a pleasant surprise. The update should not be seen as something very big. It will not be able to carry out all the tricks Windows Phone 8 is able to. But, it would be sufficient to hold on the early adopters interested until Windows Phone 8 devices become more affordable.
As far as Windows Phone 8 devices launching in China is concerned, they will be present everywhere by the early part of December. Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Huawei are preparing to launch their mobile phones based on this operating system. All these devices will be localised to China and will feature Chinese voice recognition.
Another important news is that other Windows Phone OEMs will come onboard in 2013. Till now only 3 OEMs have supported Windows Phone in 2012. A good news for Microsoft is that others are introducing handsets next year. The OEMs which are going to launch Windows Phone 8 devices next year, will have to do much more work if they stand any chance at topping what is available now.
