Rockmelt Browser now available for iPad

Launched in 2010, Rockmelt has grown and quickly built around social networking. The startup released desktop version in 2010 and a year later its iPhone version. Yesterday Rockmelt released its iPad version after eight months of its effort “It is an entirely new way to explore the Web, built for you and your iPad from the ground up,” says Rockmelt team.

RockMelt for iPad lets you connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts, save feeds for later from the sites you like, personalise your content with no address bar for the app. It provides ad-free content from sites such as Forbes, Rolling Stone, US Weekly, and other websites, available in searchable reader view.

The new Rockmelt iPad browser also changed the way it handles social in order to avoid spamming. This “light-sharing” feature is six “emoticodes” that people can click on to react to content. The codes include Like, LOL, Want, WTF, AWW (cute) and HMM. When people click on one of the emoticodes, their Facebook friends on Rockmelt will see the content with the emoticode.

According to Tim Howe, co-founder and CTO at Rockmelt, “Rockmelt’s active users use the browser 7 hours and 15 minutes per day and two-thirds of users are under 25 years old.” However, the new app does not include the chat feature as available for iPad because according to the team people can use other chat apps when on iPad.

“After many trials, experiments and an eight-month all-company effort, we couldn’t be more excited to introduce to you Rockmelt for iPad. It is an entirely new way to explore the web, built for you and your iPad from the ground up.” said Rockmelt team on their blog.
