PhoneGap, with the well timed release of its version 2.2.0 has joined the Windows 8 frenzy! You can now use PhoneGap 2.2.0 to develop apps for Windows 8 and package them for the Windows Store.
The new version will allow you to target the expanding and lucrative user base of Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT devices. Moreover, you can publish your apps to other major platforms and their stores, as ever! According to ‘PhoneGap community champion’ Steve Gill, everybody’s hard work and huge commits from the Intel open source team at 01.ORG made this all possible. You can have a look at its Git commit.
It should be noted though, that support for Windows Phone 8 is not here yet. The team at PhoneGap is working hard at it and it’s expected to arrive soon.
In addition to the massive new addition to the list of supported platforms, PhoneGap has consolidated its iOS and Android implementation systems. Android’s JavaScript to Java bridges have been improved and multiple bugs have been fixed in the latest version. Critical APIs like the FileTransfer API, SplashScreen API and support for hardware acceleration have been optimized to make your apps execute up to 20 faster!
