The Indian Type Foundry (ITF) was established in 2009, as an initiative by Peter Biľak of Typotheque; and, SN Rajpurohit and Rajesh Kejriwal (Kyoorius Exchange). The motive was to create and market fine quality typefaces for the Indian market and global world. ITF specialises in developing retail and custom Unicode-compliant digital fonts. And since India being a country of over one billion, there is no doubt that it’s multilingual, multicultural and multi-layered. So no matter which script is chosen – it certainly promises an exciting time ahead.
Apart from designing typefaces, ITF also act as an educational platform for typography. ITF has always been committed in organising lectures and workshops, as well as actively promoting the publishing and exchanging of ideas. The objective is to give the same attention to Indian typography as Latin typography has received in the last few decades.
With the existence of such a specialised company, designers will now be able to deliver quality work for regional services, and at the same time it will also motivate the young designers and students to work on Indian Typeface Design projects.
In a move which is seen as a step in making ITF a useful platform for other designers of Indic scripts, Neha Bahuguna has released KunKun Devanagari. This is a Devanagari handwriting typeface, designed to convey informal and personal messages. Released in three variations, these informal Devanagari fonts can be used in your projects.
