Google not Looking into Windows Phone 8 for its Business Apps

It seems that at present Google has little interest in developing Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 versions of its business apps; but they remain committed to the iOS and Android versions.

It is not secret that Windows 8 has been a controversial release, but when it comes to adoption by businesses, the OS might find an especially hard time. While a lot of Windows 8 is essentially the same as Windows 7, there are enough changes to how some of the very basic things work, that switching from Windows 7 to 8 might require extensive retraining, and as of now there is little benefit to it.

Just a while back, the developer of a popular iOS and Android game “Great Bit War Game” revealed, that it had made a paltry £52 in its entire first week. In contrast, it cost them around £10,000 to port the application to the platform in the first place.

As such it is unsurprising, that Google is in no hurry to spend resources in bringing its applications to a platform that as of yet, has not performed well.

Clay Bavor, the Product Management Director at Google Apps said (while speaking to V3), “We have no plans to build out Windows apps. We are very careful about where we invest and will go where the users are but they are not on Windows Phone or Windows 8.”

He added, “If that changes, we would invest there, of course”.

Windows Phone 7 managed to impress many people, but in the end it hasn’t yet got the kind of market share to make it one of the major platforms. Windows Phone 8 might not repeat that fate, but as of now it is barely a blip in the smartphone market.
