Google Adds Handwriting Input for Mobile Devices

Google has added yet another alternative for inputing text on mobile devices and tablets for search. Now in addition to typing a search query, using a photo for search, and using voice for search, it is possible to handwrite the query.

The new handwriting detection system is also multilingual and currently supports 27 languages.

The feature is in beta, and for now, needs to be specially enabled from the Google search settings page. When enabled, an icon for handwriting input appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tapping the icon makes the whole screen a handwriting entry area.

Google is currently rolling out this new feature to Android 2.3+ phone and Android 4.0+ tablets and iOS5+ devices.
