Amazon to open its App Store in India and 200 other countries

Amazon’s appstore will now soon be available in more than 200 countries which includes India apart fromAustralia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea etc. The company has announced that developers from these countries can start submitting apps to the Amazon app store so that their apps are available when the app store opens for general public in these territories. With the help of this move amazon is also looking to boost international sales for its Kindle Fire HD device, which has received moderate success since its release.

Amazon also quoted quite a few developers who had achieved success on the Amazon App Store, one of which was Imangi Studios, the makers of the Temple Run game. Keith Shephard, CEO of Imangi Studios said, “We’ve seen significantly higher customer engagement with since the integration, making the few, short steps worth it. We’re looking forward to following the Amazon Appstore as it expands into more international countries.” There are also a lot of other developers like P2 games and Playmous among others who saw significantly higher sales since they started publishing to the Amazon store.

Mike George, Vice President of Apps and Games at Amazon said, “Allowing developers to target distribution of their apps and games in even more international countries is yet another important milestone as we strive to serve consumers and developers globally. Many of our existing developers have localized their apps and games for international consumers, and we look forward to working with new developers that have been waiting to bring their apps to more customers across the globe.”

With these new developments it is clear the Amazon has started taking India seriously as one of the potential markets. Just a few days back, Amazon had announced partnership with the Indian firm called Reddington for distribution and sale of its Kindle devices. Now, with the opening of Amazon app store in India, a new avenue for Indian app developers in the form of Amazon Kindle has surfaced where they will be able to sell their apps on this new device besides the Android platform.
