All India Radio launches Youtube channel and Android app

All India Radio launched a major Social Media presence today, with a live streaming of FM Gold, its Urdu channel and an Android application for its news service. This will not only provide better online presence for the national radio channel, but also provide easier access to its archives.

“With the use of social media, people can now access the content of AIR in any part of the globe. It would also enable AIR to keep pace with contemporary trends in the social media space,” Manish Tewari, the Information and Broadcasting minister said.

The Android application is live on the Google Play Store and can be used to access news stories from the AIR network. This will include regional as well as national news along with various other programs in all the languages that are available on the radio broadcast like Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi etc. There are also various sections in the form of categories that one can browse to access National, International, Business and Sports News.

The app has already been downloaded by more than a thousand people who have left impressive ratings until now. This is indeed a positive step for a national service, most of which are often not that progressive in terms of catching up with the current generation. This will enable bigger outreach to the newer generation who mostly prefer these newer modes of interaction.

To download this app, you can go ahead and visit the Google Play store here.
