Back when they released Creative Suite 3, five years ago, Adobe introduced a new JavaScript framework that came integrated with Dreamweaver CS3, and allowed designers to create interactive data-driven widgets. The framework was based more around tags than actual JavaScript code.
Since then jQuery has taken off to a large extent, and Spry is still used mostly only by Dreamweaver. In fact recent versions of Dreamweaver use jQuery and jQuery mobile for webites.
Seeing this trend Adobe has announced that they will stop investing on their own Spry framework and embrace jQuery more fully, and focus their development efforts there.
For those who still prefer to use the Spry toolkit, or want an alternative to the jQuery way of doing things, Adobe has made the Spry code available at GitHub. The code seems to the the same 1.6.1 version that came with Adobe CS4.
