Mozilla takes over bookmarking service Pocket

Mozilla Corporation has completed the acquisition of Read It Later, Inc. the developers of Pocket.

The service will be treated as a product separate from Firefox, and will fold into Mozilla’s open source project. It’s also poised to give a boost to Mozilla’s Context Graph strategy, which uses related knowledge to help you find what you’re really looking for on the web.

Chris Beard, Mozilla CEO said “Pocket provides people with the tools they need to engage with and share content on their own terms, independent of hardware platform or content silo, for a safer, more empowered and independent online experience.” Pocket will join Mozilla’s product portfolio as a new product line alongside the Firefox web browsers with a focus on promoting the discovery and accessibility of high quality web content.

While Mozilla suggests that nothing will change with Pocket, we’ll have to wait and see what Mozilla actually means by that.
