Samsung Turkey Portal States that the Android 8.0 Oreo Update is Coming to Samsung Phones in Early 2018
An official Samsung Turkey news portal has stated that the Android Oreo
update will be coming to Samsung phones in early 2018. Specifically, the
portal stated that work on the pilot model for Android Oreo has begun, and
Samsung aims to release the update at the beginning of the new year.
The statement was light in specifics, as there were no specific phones mentioned. However, it would be realistic to expect Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S8/S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 smartphones to get the update first. Samsung releases a vast portfolio of smartphones every year, and it is unknown whether the manufacturer plans to release the Oreo update for its budget and mid-range phones such as the J series, A series, C series, etc.
Samsung flagship phones from 2016 such as the Galaxy S7 should be expected to get the Oreo update, on account of past updates.
The statement also mentions that with the Oreo update, Samsung phones will “allow your applications to open faster”, meaning app opening speed should be improved. Also, standard Android Oreo features are mentioned which include restrictions on background apps, picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, new emojis, notification channels, and predictive text selection.
Interestingly, Night Mode is also mentioned so that users can browse web pages in the dark “without disturbing their eyes.” Samsung already has a blue light filter which works well, so it’s unknown what this new addition will bring.
