One of the world’s most widely used blogging software, WordPress, simplifies the process for people to share photos and videos of their cats. The improved multimedia capabilities may find a thumbs up from the enterprises that use the software for content management system (CMS) duties.

WordPress 3.5, which was in development since last July, showcases a revamped media manager along with a new default theme that gives a more sophisticated page layout.

WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg, in a blog post announcing the release, said, “Media has long been a friction point and we’ve listened hard and given a lot of thought into crafting this new system.”

According to an ongoing survey conducted by W3Techs, the PHP-based WordPress is the most heavily used blogging platform today. The report also says that currently it is used by approximately 17 percent of all Web sites on the Internet and by 55 percent of all sites using a blogging and CMS platform of some sort.

WordPress 3.5’s new media manager furnishes an easier way for users to insert images and videos into their posts. Now user can drag and drop images and video files directly from their desktops to a drop zone for each post. Features such as adjusting image size and the other settings for each image has now been streamlined. Importing and embedding multimedia from other Web sites, like YouTube, has also been made easy.

WordPress will also be available in a new default theme, Twenty Twelve. Compared to its’ previous default theme, Kubrick, this new theme will add a more cynical style to the standard blog layout.

There is a fresh set of fonts being offered by Twenty Twelve along with a a home page template that can be easily customized through additional widgets. With the help of its Post Format feature, it can offer multiple ways to customize posts. This is done to divert them in sharing single photographs, or for posting individual links or quotations. It also comes with an ability to automatically size each page to fit the screen size, as a result it also works better with mobile devices.
