Time to play

In light of the AWS outages, how reliable are cloud services for critical operations as development?

I have managed fairly large scale infrastructure for The Times Group (indiatimes) as well as at Reliance Entertainment, and I found that eventually every part fo the chain can break – from the human resources to the physical resources. What helps you be resilient to such disruptions is the redundancy and planning for outages. It is a lot more difficult & expensive to plan for outages in fixed infrastructure as compared to AWS based infrastructure.

We use the best practices of architecting our applications across multiple Availability Zones of the AWS Region for high fault tolerance and high availability. We take responsibility in using the tools and features that AWS provides when designing our platform. We have been extremely happy with AWS. For PlayBlazer, the AWS Cloud has been extremely reliable. In fact, using AWS has enabled PlayBlazer to significantly shorten our time-to-market, from idea conception to implementation and the delivery to customers, in less than 5 months.
