Just recently Mozilla
developers created an add-on that would allow you to install, run and test Firefox OS straight from the browser. Now they have added another convenient way to test Firefox OS. Builds of Boot2Gecko have been available for a long time now, however till now they have been missing one essential component, the entirety of the Firefox OS interface and applications. It was simply the browser / Gecko layer packaged and ready to run Firefox OS and its applications. To run the actual OS on it one needed to download and build Gaia, the OS and applications layer and create a profile with it which could then be passed to boot2gecko to run it on your platform. Now this comes preconfigured for you. Simply download a recent build, run the b2g
executable and you have Firefox OS running on your platform. Unfortunately there is still a bug in the Windows version of Boot2Gecko that makes it crash on launch, and thus makes it unusable on the platform. For all others you can download the boot2gecko package for your platform and try it out for yourself.
